Investment Opportunities in Akwa Ibom State

Akwa Ibom is rich in natural gas. Most of the natural gas available in the state are predominantly rich in Methane. In total, the estimated natural gas reserve in the State is more than 24 Trillion SCF. The quality and quantity of gas in Akwa Ibom can be used to generate electricity, produce fertilizer, methanol and other petrochemical products. It can also be used to transform Nigerian dependence on firewood/kerosene for domestic cooking to a much more cleaner fuel, and petrol/diesel for transportation to a much less expensive fuel.

The immediate value are revenue generation for the state and job creation for the citizens. The long term value include environmental benefit of substituting firewood, petrol and diesel for a less expensive and relatively cleaner fuel. The current market for this gas is power generation, domestic use for cooking along with cement, fertilizer and other petrochemicals production. Most of the natural gas fields are in the Southern Part of the State namely, Mbo, Esit Eket, Ibeno, Eastern Obolo, Ikot Abasi and Eket Local Govenment Areas (LGA).
